In workshops attended by volunteers, it is not just about equality of rights, equal chances, non-discrimination, but also about tolerance, compassion, altruism, dedication and kindness. Students of the Volunteer School Club learn that the value of a man is given by factors that do not depend on belonging or not to one category or another and that diversity only serves to highlight uniqueness.
Preventing and Combating Violence - Prevention of Discrimination
The volunteers are doing the best in the first workshop about how to prevent and to combat the violence. Goals of the activity:
The development of pupils' social abilities;
The developement of conflict management skills;
The stimulation of student involvement in preventing and combating violent manifestations in the school environment.
Differents, Equals and Together
Another workshop for our volunteers, in wich they experience the situation of discrimination and face with their own prejudices and stereotypes . Goals of the activity:
To identify existing prejudices and stereotypes in society;
To develop practical strategies for preventing and combating discrimination;
To form a positive attitude towards those of another ethnicity.
The Values of a True Friendship
Friendship does not take account of ethnicity, religion, race, disability. True friends play with you, help you, trust you, do not argue with you, keep secrets, make you laugh. That's what our junior volunteers think about friendship. Goals of the activity:
To develop positive attitudes toward oneself and others;
To want to establish genuine friendship with others;
To practice and develop a personal style of analyzing the qualities of a good friend.
The Assertive Communication
In this workshop, the students learn about agressive communication, passive communication and assertive communication. Goals of the activity:
To name the elements characteristic of assertive communication;
To answer assertively in different situations;
To recognize the three ways of communication: assertive, aggressive, passive.
The Living Library Method
The students have learned about the purpose of this method, about how to be a "book"and how to be a "reader". Goals of the activity:
To learn what „Living Library” is;
To learn how to be a book;
To learn how to be a reader.
A Class Divided
Beautiful lesson about discrimination.The students have watched the movie. They were very impressed by the way in which discrimination changes the behaviour of both discriminating and discriminated. Goals of the activity:
To know the effects of discrimination on human behaviour;
To know the effects of discrimination on school performance;
To educate the students in the spirit of tolerance.
Different and Similar
In this activity, students were put in a position to be aware of how certain unpleasant events affect a person in terms of behavior, emotionally and mentally. Goals of the activity: 1.Highlighting the similarity between different people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, status or other criteria; 2.Developing feelings of empathy for people who are going through difficult situations; 3.Development of social skills.
Children's Rights and Equal Chances
This workshop put students in a position to experience how stereotypes and prejudices create inequalities. The Convention on the Rights of the Child was also presented. Goals of the activity: 1.Knowing the rights of the children; 2.Highlighting different types of prejudices and stereotypes; 3.Educating the students in the spirit of respect for the rights of others.
We Are Different But We Feel the Same!
The purpose of this workshop was to prevent discriminatory behavior among students and the development of positive attitudes towards themselves and those of other ethnicities as capable and valuable people, the development of empathy. Goals of the activity: 1. To develop students' social and communication skills; 2. To develop practical strategies for preventing and combating discrimination. After breaking the ice, the students competed to be the best, in the activities carried out: Say "Yes" and "No", Human Silhouettes, Portrait of the Victim and the Aggressor, Solutions for Reducing Bullying, Help Map, etc. As our volunteers are of different ages, 2 workshops were organized, one for juniors and another for middle school students.
Living Library Methodology
Students learned new things about the methodology of organizing the event and shared the experiences gained during the Living Library events in which they previously participated. This method created a bridge between non-formal and traditional learning, which helped the participants to understand the values of tolerance, of compassion towards the categories of vulnerable people. They have learned that discrimination, prejudice and stereotypes can irreparably affect human relationships. Goals of the activity: 1.Implementation of the Living Library method in formal education; 2.Presentation of some aspects regarding the organization of the event; 3.Organizing the Living Library event at the school.
Marginalization Through Discrimination
Through the activities carried out in this workshop, the students experienced through play, situations of discrimination, both from the perspective of the discriminator and from that of the discriminated. The goals of the activity: 1.Prevention of discriminatory behavior among students; 2.Developing positive attitudes towards oneself; 3. Developing positive attitudes towards those of another ethnicity as capable and valuable people.
Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Relationship
How does it influence behavior, attitude and language used, interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships? What are the effects of intolerance on the people we come in contact with? The participants in this workshop also found out the forms in which aggression is manifested. The goals of the activity: 1.Highlighting how intolerance affects social behavior; 2.Development of social and communication skills; 3.Management of bullying situations.
